Head-to-Head Team Fitness Events
Introducing the world’s first professional spectator sport with co-ed teams competing in human performance races. This is a mainstream sporting event that is fan, TV, and sponsor friendly. Picture two 8-person teams (4 men, 4 women, with one of each being over 40 years old) going head to head in matches throughout a season that is not unlike an abbreviated NFL season. Two-hour matches with fixed but flexible rules that are designed to force teams to strategize. The competitions will be easy to follow, and a very smart team that executes flawlessly could outwit a fitter team in any given match. There will be consistent structure for every match, all events known ahead of time, and substitutions on the fly.
Teams are City or Region Based
The teams (like in the NBA, NFL, etc) will be separately operated, for-profit entities. They will sign and pay each of their athletes. They will be based in a particular city, so Boston will play New York, etc., and like other pro sports, anyone could be hired onto any team as long as the contract is legit. Rules will be set up to ensure parity of competition, so one team dominating year after year is near impossible. There will be League revenue sharing on top of local events and merchandise. The National Pro Fitness League will take place completely in the U.S. It’s possible that similar Leagues will be set up in other regions in the future.
The First Season Starts Late Summer 2014
The League matches will start in late August 2014, and be aired live. The first year will be an abbreviated season, and 2015 will start the full schedule. We’re limiting the launch to eight teams, but there will be an opportunity for expansion teams as early as 2015. Of course, we’ll also have a robust website that will feature the athletes, teams and coaches from the League throughout the year.
There will be a multi-stage tryout process for qualified athletes not already signed to teams. The first stage of combines will take place in April 4 to May 4 at several locations around the U.S., where a couple hundred men and women will be invited to perform a series of individual lifts, skills, drills, and workouts. The top men and women will be invited to stay for team-based tryouts. The best of them will then be invited to a final series of tryouts in mid-June. The official Draft will take place end of June. Comprehensive Opportunities for Sponsors
The primary League-wide sponsors will have the most consistent, comprehensive, and integrated exposure to the functional fitness community available today. Not only will there be national TV exposure with in-show elements, arena branding, and commercials, there will also be year-round web videos published multiple times a day with tasteful in-show opportunities.
